Wall cladding

  1. Step 1

    Check the wall

    Sound, flat and weatherproof. Plan the ventilated gap and where openings fall.

  2. Step 2

    Fix the battens

    40 × 30 composite battens (XK-JO) at about 400 mm centres, square to the boards, plus one beside every opening. Anchor with 6 × 80 hammer-in fixings (XK-EXB).

  3. Step 3

    Fit starter clips

    One stainless starter clip (XK-SC) at the foot of each batten. They set the first row dead level.

  4. Step 4

    Clip the panels

    Seat each panel on the row below and fix one stainless cladding clip (XK-WC) per board at every batten.

  5. Step 5

    Stagger the joints

    Every board end lands on a batten. Offset joints between rows and leave the end gap for expansion.

  6. Step 6

    Finish the edges

    Close corners and board ends with 50 × 50 L-trims: XK-TD-ET for Classic, XK-CT-ET for Capped.

Decking

  1. Step 1

    Prepare the base

    A firm, free-draining slab or frame with a slight fall away from the house.

  2. Step 2

    Lay the joists

    Composite joists (XK-JO) at about 350 mm centres, or as the printed guide for your board says. Fix to concrete with hammer-in fixings.

  3. Step 3

    Start at the edge

    Hold the first board with starter clips (XK-SC).

  4. Step 4

    Clip every board

    Hidden clips in the board grooves: plastic XK-PC for a 6 mm gap or stainless XK-MC for 4 mm. Allow about 21 per m².
